The major upgrade to our SmarterMail MX01 mail server has been completed. We migrated SmarterMail to an all new Server 2012 R2 installation with IIS 8.5. Server 2012 R2 offers performance enhancements over 2008 R2, the more power IIS 8.5 will also offer better Webmail performance to those customers who rely on the webmail interface.
With the OS upgrade, we’ve also upgraded our Anti-Virus system that SmarterMail works with to scan incoming emails and any attachments. Our improved scanning engine has higher performance, lower false positives and a better detection rate of zero-day viruses, spyware and other unwanted attachments.
Several customers over the past few months have contacted us in regards to the time on our servers being anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes out on the correct time. Over the weekend we’ve setup a local NTP server with an attached highly accurate time source. The system time now on all servers (including customer VPS services) will now be accurate within milliseconds instead of being +/- seconds to minutes out.
